Oliver Stone - The Rebel
“To resist or defy an authority or a generally accepted convention” is how dictionary.com defines the word “rebel”. This is how Oliver Stone should be defined as well.
Oliver Stone has became famous for his controversial movies that directly expose the awfull truths of our times and he has done this when no one has expected it, when it was hardest.
Now, with his latest film, World Trade Center, he has taken a new turn to prove himself even more unpredictable - just as everyone expects him to create another shocking document of our times, just as he picks the most sensitive of all subjects - he defies the expectations and shocks the public again - he creates the most uncontroversial film of this century.
Stone has showed us that no one can expecta nything of him, that he will always be on top of us. When we learn that he is tough than he becomes soft, when we learn that he is angry he becomes nice, when he learn that he is a middle age slim caucasian male he will probably turn into a fat chinese female.
This need for always being in the spotlight yet always being against the spotlight is explained by Stone as a childhood complex: “When I was a kid my mom would always dress me up for school as a clown, and than one day it was a clown day in school and everybody was dressed up as a clown and my mom made me wear regular clothes. I was very confused. Only many years later I started to realize how messed up this was. Now I do this with my movies. All I want is to be different.”
It is reported that Stone has started seeing Oprah about his problem but when he realized she has no real qualifications to help people with his condition he become very angry at her.
